RULES

1.The Musikstrasse Associazione organizes the 9th SANREMO CLASSICO INTERNATIONAL PIANO COMPETITION "Prize F.Alfano"
2. Competitors might be of any nationality whatsoever.
3. The competition is open to those born after the 1 December 1972.
4. Secretariat should receive applications NOT LATER THAN 4th OCTOBER 2004. Applications should be sent following one of the different ways as below:

- by ordinary mail (deadline verified through the post office endorsement) sent to following address:

The following documents must be attached to applications and sent together with the application form:

 Brief résumé of the artist
 Detailed list of the compositions selected for the Competition, featuring all movements and lengths relating thereto
 Copy of a valid ID ( identification document)
 Entrance fee[cheque attached/ copy of the cheque sent/ number of reference of the cheque sent/ copy of the document proving the bank transfer]


5-Subscription tax of EURO 70, 00 is to be paid through:

SECRETARIAT WILL VALIDATE AND CONFIRM ONLY THOSE APPLICATIONS DULY FILLED AND SENT WITH ALL DOCUMENTS REQUESTED AS LISTED ABOVE

6.All competitors unconditionally accept all rules hereto with the act of enrolment and allow the Associazione Musikstrasse to use their image and performances for no charge, even for recording, broadcasting and airing, with no restrictions as to time, space, and number of broadcastings.

7. All participants are to muster a valid ID in the place, on the day and at the time that will be communicated in the convocation, or otherwise will lose any right to take part in the competition. The organisers take on no responsibilities whatsoever for applications or convocations delivered late due to mail problems. In this cases participants should contact the competition’ organisers for details.
8. The performances’ schedule will be decided by the competition’s Secretary.

9. No prize nor refund (except for those explicitly quoted in the PRIZES AND REFUNDS section hereto) will be awarded to competitors as payment for their performances, for no reason and in no part of the Competition whatsoever.

10. The judgment of the Jury is indisputable and final.

11. Any variations or cancellations hereto may be added any time that do not substantially alter the competition’ aims and proper development.

12. The Jury has the right not to award prizes whenever the competitors are found to be lacking the necessary requirements.

13. Failing to participate in any of the Competition’s stages will cause the immediate disqualification of the competitor.

14. All competitors are to muster a copy of the scores selected for performing.

15. All performances are to be played by memory

16. Competitors who ranked first in previous editions of the Competition are not entitled to take part in the Competition.

17. In case of any controversy hereto, the only relevant court will be the Court of Rome.

18. In case of any disputes only the Italian version of the Rules hereto will be considered valid.

19. Application's receipt will be acknowledged as soon as received. Within the 13TH October 2004 all competitors will receive the convocation with indication of competition’s place and timetable, and with the hotel information (see ACCOMODATION)

PERFORMANCES

1. The Competition will take place from the 22 to 28 OCTOBER in SANREMO (in the Province of Imperia, ITALY) and will be made up of 3 (three) subsequent stages

2. The Competition will comply to the following rules:

STEP A): audition of all competitors, performing the prescribed and chosen pieces.

STEP B): this stage will be accessed by no more than 8 (eight).

STEP C): FINALS PIANO AND ORCHESTRA No more than 3 (three) will qualify for the finals.

FINAL CONCERT
In the Final Concert that will be held at the Sanremo Casino Opera Theatre on the 28 October 2004, the 3 finalists already awarded (1st 2nd and 3rd prize) will play each a solo a short piece (one of those already played during the competition or any other freely chosen). The winner (1st prize) will also perform with the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra by playing the Piano Concerto already performed in Step C)

On the 29th October the winner is invited to perform its Piano concerto together with the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra in the town of Bordighera near Sanremo. Therefore only the winner will stay in Sanremo until the 29 October ( see ACCOMMODATION)

3. The Italian TV network RAIUNO will take scenes of the competition and of the Final Concert for the realization of the TV program dedicated to “Sanremo Classico Competition” (broadcasted not live on RAIUNO

4. The selected competitors who fail to show up or arrives late for the FINAL CONCERT , even if due to major force, are by default disqualified and lose any right to prizes and/or refunds of any kind whatsoever.

5. The Jury’s secretary decides how and when the voting shall take place, in any of the Competition’s steps. Voting shall be performed in written form.
6.The Jury has the undisputed right to hear the competitors more than one, or to shorten any auditions if deemed proper.

7. All the prizes are to be awarded to only one competitor and cannot be divided.

PRIZES AND REFUNDS

1. First ranker category will be awarded a scholarship fund for a total amount of EURO 4.500,00 gross and will be offered 3 (three) concerts in co-operation with Italian Associations.

2. Second and Third rankers will be awarded a scholarship of EURO 1.100,00 gross

3. The 3 awarded competitors will get a special showcase at international level thanks to the RAIUNO TV program dedicated to the competition (see art. 3 PERFORMANCES) which is a special peculiarity of Sanremo Classico.
(In Italy more than one million and three hundred thousand people watched the TV program of the competition 2003 in addition to a greater audience in many other countries through RAI International).


4. The 3 finalists will be awarded a Finalist’s Diploma whereas all competitors will receive a Participation Diploma. The Jury could also assign Special Mention Diplomas to those competitors that have stood out in any step of the Competition.


5. Jury will also assign the scholarship of EURO 500,00, offered by IMAIE (Italian Association of Artists’ Rights) to the best Italian competitor within any of the competition’s phase.

ACCOMMODATION

To all the participants, in order with the rules, Sanremo Classico will give free hospitality in a bed and breakfast accommodation (extra excluded) in Hotel Rio (Sanremo) as follows:
 2 nights (22 and 23 October ) to all the competitors
 3 nights (22,23 and 24 October ) for those ranking to the Semi-finals (Step B)
 7 nights (22-28 October) for the 3 Finalists
We suggest you to enrol as soon as possible in order to take advantage of this facility.
Any other person coming with participant is excluded from free accommodation.
 For the night of the Il 29 October the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra will give free hospitality to the winner.
PROGRAM

STEP A): A recital program of maximum 25 minutes, which included 4 pieces (compulsory the 3 following compositions plus 1 piece chosen by the participant ) as below:

BWV 893 Teil II ( Ed. G. Henle Verlag Munchen)

2. L. V. BEETHOVEN Fantasie Opus 77 (Ed. G. Henle Verlag Munchen)

3. F. CHOPIN: a Study chosen by the competitor among those in the Op. 10 and in the Op. 25, except n. 3 and 6,op.10 and n.7, op. 25.

 ONE PIECE FREELY CHOOSEN OF MAXIMUM 8/9 MINUTES

Please be aware that STEP A) HAS TO BE NO LONGER THEN 25 MINUTES

STEP B): SEMIFINAL A recital program of roughly 35 minutes, chosen by the competitor, featuring pieces of various periods and styles, by any composer. Options might not include any composition chosen for Step A.

STEP C): FINAL PIANO AND ORCHESTRA . One Concerto to be performed with the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra chosen by the competitor, among the following six :
