MAURICE OHANA INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR MUSICAL COMPOSITION 2003
The association Les Amis de Maurice Ohana (Friends of Maurice Ohana) awards a Maurice Ohana Prize every two or three years, alternating a prize for musical performance and a prize for musical competition.

Article 1
The second Maurice Ohana International Competition for Musical Composition organised by Les Amis de Maurice Ohana in conjunction with "l'Ensemble TM+" conducted by Laurent Cuniot will take place in Nanterre (92000) during june 2003.

Article 2
The competition is open to composers of all nationalities. Each competitor must submit a musical work lasting between 10 and 15 minutes written for an orchestra comprising twelve instruments : flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, percussion, harp. Or a work written for only ten or twelve of the aforementioned instruments. Any score not using this instrumentation would be imediately eliminated. All compositions submitted shall be original creations and must not have been previously published or submitted for any other competition.

Article 3
The winner will receive the sum of 7 625 euros in respect of the Maurice Ohana Prize as awarded by Les Amis de Maurice Ohana. A second work will be awarded a spezcial prize of 3 050 euros by SACEM.

Article 4
The results of the competition will be announced during the month of october 2003. The composition awarded the Maurice Ohana Prize will be published by Editions Jobert, except of the winner composer has already established an agreement with another publisher.
The work will be premiered in the aegis of a public concert given in honour of Maurice Ohana by the Ensemble TM+ conducted by Laurent Cuniot. In the event that this ensemble is unable, due to undforesteen circumstances, to performe the work, the organisers reserve the right to select other performers to this end.

Article 5
Submissions must be forwarded in three copies by registered or certified mail, return receipt requested, by June 1st 2003, the operative date being that stamped by the postal services, to the folowing adress :

The panel of Judges will deliberate looking at scores whose composers will remain anonymous. The scores must therefore be sent with no indication of the composer's name, accompanied by a letter which will enable the competition secretaries to identify the candidate with a number given to the Panel of Judges.

Article 6
Registration for the competition should be accompanied by a contribution to costs of 50 euros in the form of a postal order, international money order or cheque payable to Les Amis de Maurice Ohana sent to the folowing adress :

This contribution will not be refundable in the event that the applicant decides subsequently not to take part in the competition. Travelling, subsistence and any other costs shall be borne by competitors, who shall have no claim to any prize or title other than that actually awarded to them.
Improper claims shall be subject to challenge and legal common law action by the association Les Amis de Maurice Ohana.

Article 7
The Panel of Judges shall meet in June 2003. The organisers reserve the right to replace any member of the Panel unable to attend due to unforceseen circumstances. Decisions by the Planel are final and not open to appeal. The Panel may decide not to award any prize or prizes.
In the event that the competition cannot be held for any reason, all registrations feees shall be cancelled, the above-mentioned contributions to costs reimbursed and scores returned, competitors having no legal claim on the organisers in the event of said cancellation.
Participation in the competition automatically entails acceptance of the present Rules shall have force of law.

The next Maurice Ohana International Competition for Musical Composition is due to take place in 2008.
